Osaka University is a national university established in 1931. It is home to 14,890 undergraduate students, the highest among national universities in Japan, and 8,154 graduate students.


Boasting 11 undergraduate schools, 15 graduate schools, and 6 affiliated research institutes, Osaka University is one of Japan’s premier comprehensive research universities.

The university aims to be a world-leading innovative university that contributes to education and research under its motto, “Live Locally, Grow Globally.” With 2,591 international students coming from 102 countries/regions around the world, Osaka University has diverse student population. 

In the QS World University Rankings 2023, Osaka University is ranked as 18th in Asia and 68th globally. In THE's Japan University Rankings, it is ranked as the 3rd in Japan.
